Sometimes, the question about where to visit is clear the minute we start talking about what repertoire groups like to perform. Some pieces were written for specific places, after all, or with a certain setting in mind — which means inspiration might come from your own music library.
For church choirs like Holy Comforter Church Chancel Choir, touring was an opportunity to share their specialty of service music with other congregations. In 2024, they toured Ireland and the United Kingdom, and sang three Evensong services in three countries.
To commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day, Calvary Presbyterian Church and Davidson United Methodist Church Choirs both traveled to Caen to perform a special concert in the Abbey Saint-Etienne. In addition to the historical significance, this particular program was special because it featured Requiems by Maurice Durufle and John Rutter — one French, one British.
On a tour of Germany in 2024, Summit Chorale visited Leizpig, and jumped at the opportunity to perform the Bach motet “Jesu Meine Freude” in its entirety, in the Thomaskirche, where Bach himself was choirmaster and organist.
