Roosevelt High School Jazz Band 2016 Concert Tour of France and Italy
Roosevelt High School Jazz Band performs in the Umbria Jazz Festival in Perugia, Italy
The Seattle area has long been rich with high school jazz talent. Bands from Western Washington consistently are invited to the top jazz festivals and competitions in the country. We are honored to work with two of these bands, the Garfield High School Jazz Band, directed by Clarence Acox, and the Roosevelt High School Jazz Band, directed by Scott Brown. For their 2016 European tours, these groups were looking to play at some of Europe’s most prestigious jazz festivals.
While both groups performed as part of, and enjoyed listening to, the world-class performers at Jazz àVienne in Vienne, France and the Umbria Jazz Festival in Perugia, Italy, their tours took them separate ways. Roosevelt spent time on France’s Côted’Azur, presenting preview concerts as part of Jazz à Toulon and the Saint Raphael Jazz Festival, before traveling to Italy’s Cinque Terre for a free day of hiking and swimming. Garfield journeyed into the Alps and played at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland before moving south to Italy and opening the Alba Music Festival’s summer series with a performance at Verduno Castle.
Both groups also had additional performances, including joint concerts with local bands, and enjoyed some wonderful sightseeing and delicious meals, taking full advantage of their time in these countries.
