Austria, Hungary and Slovenia

Austria and Hungary are two countries that are widely considered to be cradles of classical music. Slovenia also has ample musical opportunities, especially for those groups wishing to get a bit off the beaten track.

Austria is, quite simply, the land of music – Bruckner, Mozart and Schubert were all native Austrians, and their musical heritage pervades the cultural life of the country. Austria is also famous for its spectacular scenery, from the mountains of Tyrol to the lakes of the Salzkammergut. We have particularly good connections with the Stephansdom in Vienna and the Salzburger Dom for service participations and concerts.

The contribution that Hungary has made to music education and, in particular, the development of choral singing cannot be overemphasized. The heritage of Liszt, Kodaly and Bartók is plain to see in the range and quality of concert venues and the musical sophistication of the Hungarian audiences.

Ljubljana, Slovenia’s capital, has an alpine feel and has been likened to Salzburg for its rich history, baroque architecture, thriving cultural life and its magnificent position on the banks of the Ljubljanica River. The medieval citadel that dominates the city is particularly worth a visit, as is the picturesque town of Bled, set beside a lake and in the shadow of its medieval castle.
