Passing the Baton?

Genesis 4:18 – And unto Enoch was born Irad: and Irad begat Mehujael: and Mehujael begat Methusael: and Methusael begat Lamech.

There is something similar going on with ACFEA’s clients, as we reached the fourth generation in a sequence of teachers and students who have toured with us.

John Alexander, who taught at California State University, Northridge and CSU Fullerton, and is Artistic Director Emeritus of Pacific Chorale, taught Jon Hurty, who now teaches at Augustana College in Illinois.

Jon Hurty and John Alexander taught Rob Istad, who is now at CSU Fullerton and is Artistic Director of Pacific Chorale.

Rob Istad taught Jens Hurty, Jon’s son, until this year, and Jens was the recipient of Cal State Fullerton’s John Alexander Choral Conducting Scholarship, which fully funded his master’s degree study program.

Jon, Rob and Jens all toured with us this year. John Alexander, who toured with us 11 times from 1988 until his retirement, had these thoughts:

I guess one could say that I hold the advanced-age title of “Great-grandfather” in this multi-generational lineage!

I will not be surprised if this generational sequence of our association with ACFEA, spanning five decades, continues when Jens, who begins his professional career as a high school choral music teacher this fall, starts thinking about an ACFEA tour.

Quality begets quality, and ACFEA produces quality experiences. Thank you to Hugh Davies for his deep commitment to creating outstanding touring experiences of the highest artistic merit. ACFEA is the best!
