As the announcer opened the envelope, thousands of people in Varna’s Congress Centre held their breath. Singers from Italy, Hungary, Spain, the US, and several other countries around the world were all perfectly still, waiting to hear which name would be read. This was it: the moment the 2016 European Grand Prix winner would be announced.

Roosevelt and Garfield Jazz Bands Spend Time Jamming in Europe

The Seattle area has long been rich with high school jazz talent. Bands from Western Washington consistently are invited to the top jazz festivals and competitions in the country. We are honored to work with two of these bands, the Garfield High School Jazz Band, directed by Clarence Acox, and the Roosevelt High School Jazz Band, directed by Scott Brown. For their 2016 European tours, these groups were looking to play at some of Europe’s most prestigious jazz festivals.

A Strong Response to Terrorism

When terrorists attacked Paris on November 13, killing 130 people, Andy Ball, planning a tour of France for his Corona del Mar (Newport Beach, CA) Madrigal Singers, never considered canceling. Instead, recognizing that the attack made Paris no less safe than it had been before, he wrote an exemplary letter to the families of his singers, emphasizing that the tour now had even more important goals: supporting the French and showing disdain for the terrorists.
